Respect, Responsibility, Results

Respect, Responsibility, Results

Gordon Street is running for the Maine House of Representatives to bring respect, responsibility, and results to Augusta. A clinical psychologist, former investigative television journalist, and Lincoln Town Councilor, he has built his life and career around listening carefully, solving tough problems, and helping people through conflict.

Roots in Nashville

Respect, Responsibility, Results

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Gordon is the oldest of three children. His father, Edward Hunt Street, was an architect, and his mother, Virginia Powell Street, was a fine artist. From his parents, Gordon learned to value both practical problem‑solving and creativity — skills that continue to guide his work and public service.

From Journalism to Advocacy

Gordon earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and spent 12 years as a television news reporter. He began at WBIR‑TV in Knoxville, then returned to Nashville to work at WSMV‑TV, reporting on education quality and education funding. This work made him a strong advocate for public education and for the five core freedoms of the First Amendment: press, speech, assembly, petition, and religion.

A New Path: Clinical Psychology

Wanting to help people more directly, Gordon went back to school and earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. His expertise in statistical analysis led to a post‑doctoral position at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety in Philadelphia, where he also met his future wife, fellow clinical psychologist Lee Fitzgibbons, Ph.D. Together, they later built a joint private practice, Anxiety Solutions of Northern New England, PLLC, and started their family. Gordon believes in evidence-guided practice and values the role of science matched with genuine concern and respect to help patients face their fears.

Making Maine Home

In 2004, Gordon and Lee moved to Raymond, Maine, to raise their two daughters close to their maternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles. In 2018, Gordon began providing mental health services to adults, teens, and children in the Lincoln Lakes region. After their daughters graduated from high school, Gordon and Lee moved to Lincoln full time, fell in love with the community and the natural environment, and decided to make it their permanent home.

Serving Lincoln and Growing the Local Economy

Gordon quickly stepped up to serve his new hometown. In November 2023, Lincoln voters elected him to the Town Council with more votes than any other candidate. He also serves on the Lincoln Lakes Innovation Corporation, working to rehabilitate and redevelop the former mill site into a home for new businesses and industries. His goal is to grow the local economy, expand the property tax base, and ease the burden on homeowners while creating good‑paying jobs.

Faith, Values, and Public Service

Faith and public service are deeply connected in Gordon’s life. He sings in the choir and serves as a lector at his church. He believes firmly in the separation of church and state — that government should not regulate, prohibit, or replace religion, nor favor one faith over another. At the same time, he recognizes that a legislator’s spiritual and moral values shape how they govern. For Gordon, that means striving to live out one of Jesus’s most repeated teachings: “love your neighbor as yourself,” especially in how we listen, legislate, and treat one another.

As a Democrat running in a district with many Republicans and independents, Gordon’s approach is simple: listen first, treat everyone with respect, and focus on practical solutions. In the Maine House, he will work to promote economic development, keep property taxes down, improve public education, protect Maine’s natural environment, and help heal our political divide. Drawing on his experience as a psychologist, journalist, and local leader, Gordon Street is ready to bring calm, common‑sense, and deeply rooted Maine values to representing House District 28.
