meet gordon street

Gordon Street is a clinical psychologist, former investigative TV journalist, and Lincoln Town Councilor running for the Maine House to bring Respect, Responsibility, and Results to Augusta. Born and raised in Nashville, he built his career around listening carefully, solving tough problems, and helping people through conflict.

After years of reporting on education funding and quality, Gordon earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology and eventually settled in Maine with his wife, Lee, to raise their two daughters. In Lincoln, he provides mental health care to adults, teens, and children, and was elected to the Town Council in November of 2023 with more votes than any other candidate.

Gordon now wants to take that same calm, commonsense approach to the state level—working to lower property taxes, grow local jobs, strengthen public schools, protect Maine’s natural environment, and help heal our political divide.

what gordon stands for

Promoting Economic Development

Promoting Economic Development

Promoting Economic Development

Gordon believes every Mainer should have the chance to earn a good living without having to leave their community. He supports smart, local economic development that brings new businesses and good‑paying jobs to rural Maine while preserving what makes our towns special.

  • Redeveloping old mill and industrial sites into hubs for new industries
  • Supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, not just big corporations
  • Investing in the infrastructure (roads, broadband, utilities) that businesses need to grow

Keeping Property Taxes Down

Promoting Economic Development

Promoting Economic Development

As a Town Councilor, Gordon has seen firsthand how rising property taxes strain families, seniors, and small businesses. In Augusta, he will fight to protect homeowners by broadening the tax base and pushing for fair state support to towns.

  • Growing the local and regional economy so towns aren’t forced to over‑rely on their own homeowners
  • Working for a fairer balance between state funding and local responsibilities
  • Protecting seniors and working families from being taxed out of their homes

Improving Public Education

Promoting Economic Development

Protecting Our Natural Environment

Gordon’s years reporting on education funding and his commitment as a parent have made him a strong advocate for public schools. He believes every child in Maine deserves safe schools, talented and dedicated teachers, and a real chance to succeed—no matter their ZIP code.

  • Supporting fair, predictable school funding so districts can plan and hire
  • Respecting teachers and giving them the tools they need to do their jobs well
  • Strengthening pathways to both college and skilled trades for Maine’s students

Protecting Our Natural Environment

Protecting Our Natural Environment

Protecting Our Natural Environment

Gordon fell in love with Maine’s woods, waters, and wildlife—and he knows they are central to our economy and our identity. He will work to protect our lakes, rivers, forests, and clean air so that hunting, fishing, farming, and outdoor recreation can thrive for generations.

  • Protecting clean water in our lakes, rivers, and wells
  • Supporting responsible forestry, farming, and outdoor recreation
  • Encouraging clean, reliable energy solutions that fit Maine’s rural communities

Healing Our Political Divide

Healing Our Political Divide

As a clinical psychologist, Gordon has spent his career helping people listen to one another and work through conflict. He knows Maine can’t solve big problems if we’re too busy shouting past each other.

  • Listening first and treating everyone with respect, regardless of party
  • Working across the aisle on shared priorities like jobs, taxes, education, and public safety
  • Bringing a calm, problem‑solving mindset to Augusta instead of more division and drama

Gordon at the Lincoln Transfer Station

In his professional life, he practices evidence-guided psychotherapy whenever feasible. On the Town Council, he has drafted resolutions calling for economic development efforts funded by business-government partnerships, not property taxpayers.

At home, he and his wife work hard to shrink their carbon footprints. He drives an all-electric car, they have solar panels on their roof, and they recycle as much plastic and metal as feasible. The crew at the Lincoln Transfer Station will tell you he's a "religious recycler," even using reusable garbage bags to cut down on plastic waste.

With Gordon, you know that what he says he will do... he does.
